A note from a scholar
Allah, Azza wa Jalla, describes the recipients of Zakat in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 60, which includes "fi sabilillah" - in the way of Allah.
On this basis, a masjid, madrasa or non-profit Islamic organisation meets this category. Using Zakat, khairat or Sadaqah to run an Islamic organisation for dawah should be fine, in sha Allah. This is the view of many scholars - see Al-Mughni by Ibn Qudamah; it is also noted in Ar-Rawdh An-Nadhir. Allah knows best.

Words from Islamic Scholar about giving charity to Dawah Organization
Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuhu. Allah Azza wa Jalla has described the zakaat recipients in surah Atoubah verse #60 in it وفى سبيل الله .
Based on this, masjid, madrasa, and or any unprofitable Islamic orgarnisation/s meets this category. Hence, using zakaat, khairaat, sadaqah to pay off a masjid or run an Islamic organisation for dawa purpose should be fine in sha Allah. This is the view of many scholars. See Almoukhni Ibn Qudamah, it is also noted in Arrawdh Annadhiir.
